For independent front suspension (IFS), get Diff Drops & Upper Control Arms.

If you want to suspend an IFS vehicle, it's crucial that you also consider installing diff drop kits and an upper control arms kit. Diff drop kits lower your front diff below your vehicle's factory height, which enables a safer angle on CV joints and less likelihood of damage.

Diff Drops & Upper Control Arms (UCAs) improve steering precision & minimise tyre wear.

Diff drop kits lower your front diff below your vehicle's factory height. Upper control arms enhance your steering by restoring camber and caster adjustment controls nearer the factory specs while maintaining the bigger suspension heights. Plus UCAs give you better handling while minimising tyre wear and tear - perfect for Australia's varied driving conditions.

The biggest question when it comes to Upper Control Arms: Do you really need them?

Before going to the significant expense of new UCAs it's crucial to understand why you do, or do not, need them. Your vehicle may have an independent front end or live axle, in which case fitting a suspension lift will do two things:

  • Lift your chassis & body away from the mounting point of your wheels and tyres, which enables more room for larger tyres along with ground clearance.
  • Pivot the suspension arms, linking the two together.

In vehicles with solid axles, the pivot described in "2" above is not often a problem, given that the axle will roll and alter the relationship between upper and lower bearings, which releases the caster... but don't panic, some off-set bushes will remedy the situation quite easily. (But if the vehicle is independent front suspension, it's a different kettle of fish!)

As you can see, it's a big decision, so think carefully!

What's the difference between good & bad suspension?

In a twin-arm scenario there's not only caster adjustment as with a solid axle vehicle to think about... you also need to think about camber. Lifting an independent suspension vehicle, even just the smallest bit, can throw out alignments and create problems with ball-joint operating angles, tyre clearance and other suspension parts.

UCAs have been innovated to fix such problems issues, restoring suspension geometry and alignment back to factory settings, or even better!

Above all else, when it comes to diff drops & UCAS, remember this...

Overall, vehicles with independent front suspension are factory made with two degrees of adjustment - and for every inch you lift your vehicle you will lose one degree of adjustment. The result is that if you lift your vehicle and subsequently perform a wheel alignment, you won't have adjustment with which to accurately align. Fitting an adjustable upper control arm will restore the two degrees of adjustment, enabling an accurate alignment.
