Why increased caster means increased performance.

By increasing caster on your ute, you'll enhance on-road performance and, as the wheel is moved away from the body mount, you also make room for larger tyres.

Your camber is also fundamentally affected by higher lifts. As you lift the suspension, the tyre bottom rotates inwards and delivers enhanced positive camber... this reduces the contact patch on the road, which in turn gives more tyre wear and diminished road performance.

Therefore by angling the top ball joint you realign the steering geometry for both camber and caster. So as long as the new upper control arm brings caster back within factory specs, you can get back to the ideal wheel alignment for camber.

Beware... ball joints can be risky & expensive.

There is not much adjustment for caster. Some upper control arms have an adjustable ball joint, and decent brands are usually quite reasonable, but take care when shopping as some of these ball joints are very expensive and give a relatively short service life. Plus the top nut that fixes the ball joint does not have a locking system so they come loose quite a lot which loses your steering alignment.
