Understanding the material terminology when you buy Rock Sliders.

When you buy Rock Sliders you will find lots of acronyms relating to the materials used in the construction, which can be a bit bamboozling. Here's your user friendly explanation of what's what:

  • HREW (Hot Rolled Electric Resistance Welded) tube is the lower cost steel tubing, employed in lots of 4WD parts. There's nothing wrong with it in Rock Sliders, but you should think twice before buying HREW Roll Cages.
  • DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel) is tougher higher cost. Basically it's HREW cold-worked, drawn through a die and over a mandrel - removing mill scale and enhancing the molecular structure of the steel.

Good to know with more safety driven equipment like roll cages, but not an issue with Rock Sliders - either process will serve you just fine.
